Other activities which are similar to enterprise architecture and Business-IT alignment. How to make EA more economical.
---
Enterprise architecture does not necessarily
mean spending money. We can integrate the current resources, optimize the
distribution of them, and save money from that.
When most people think of EA, they come up
with the first idea of spending money, hiring useless consultants, buying more
fancy software. But these are not what EA means. Enterprise architecture is to
examine a company and to draw a blue print of it. The blue print must be as
detailed as one of the buildings. Every wire, every pipe, every pole, every tile,
and every element has to be examined and to be allocated in the blue print.
The most important element in EA is the
analysis. The more enterprise architect knows about the company, the more
successful EA could be. A company may have enough resource, but the operator of
it does not know how to use the resource. Actually, the real amount of resource
always remains unknown to the operators and the executors. This is because that
as a company grows, the complexity of it grows. And it becomes bigger and
bigger, more and more complex, until no one can tell what are the elements in
the huge complexity.
The purpose of EA is find out what the
elements are. EA is to examine if every division works in coherent. EA is to
make sure no resource has been wasted. EA is to precisely allocate every component
of the company through rigorous and stringent logic thinking. If an enterprise architect
does so, he can always find out a better way to redistribute the total
resources without buying extra equipment and software.
